My hubby and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this hot cereal. We followed it exactly and opted out of the collagen. It is so filling and so tasty. We added a few blueberries and raspberries and a small bit of butter and WOW! Thank you for sharing this awesome recipe.Reply

Thanks so much for this recipe!
As someone who ate oatmeal or cream or wheat every morning for years and is now keto this is a great substitute. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and it turned out great. Added a few blueberries on top and it was delicious.Reply
Stacey
Hi Craig, you're very welcome. Thank you for trying the recipe and for your kind words.

WOWIE!!! Who’d have thought? One of the things I miss is Porridge with yogurt. This is deliciously comforting. Had to use pumpkin seeds and whipping cream, it worked fine. Also added tbsp chia and hemp. So good!Reply
Stacey
Thank you, Ann, for trying the recipe & for sharing your substitutions with us! I love the pumpkin seed idea!

Ah this was SO good and perfect for my oatmeal cravings! For those of you who take it camping, did you blend the dry ingredients before leaving and then add the milk and butter when camping?Reply
Stacey
Thank you, Bonnie, for trying the recipe & sharing your tips for camping.

I drive a truck, that's exactly what I do. Mix all the dry and make it in the truck with milk, vanilla and butter. I absolutely love this cereal, so good and so good for you.Reply

I thought this was going to be gloopy, like most low carb porridges, but it was really good, and really satisfying. Where I live, we can buy a mix called LSA (linseeds,Sunflower and almond), already ground into a meal. It was so convenient to use. I didn't even use the measurements. I just add some and checked until it was the consistency i liked. thank you.

Stacey
Thank you, Pearley, for trying the recipe and for your very kind words. I have never seen LSA before, but how convenient that would be to have it already mixed together. I am going to see if I can find that online. Thanks for letting me know about that.

Could not get the sunflower seeds pulverized enough. Created a problem with my intestines. I love a hot cereal. I eat low carb due to high sugar issues. I will try and figure out how to come up with a solution. I didn't have blueberries so I used sugar free jelly, it tasted good. j
Reply
Stacey
Amy, I used a food processor to make them into a powder.

Thank you for this amazing recipe! Cream of Wheat has always been my favorite cereal, hot or cold, and I've really missed it since being on a low-carb diet. I modified a few things in the recipe by using 3 tbl of coconut flour since I didn't have almond flour. I also used a 1/2 cup of almond milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. This was incredibly delicious and pretty much the same consistency of cream of wheat. I love how easy and quick it was to make, it took me longer to gather and measure the ingredients then to actually cook it haha. Thanks so much, this will be a lifelong recipe for me!Reply
Stacey
You're very welcome, Dee. Thank you for trying the recipe & for sharing your tips and ideas 🙂

Delicious! This recipe is so good, but I did add some pink salt to it (like you would oatmeal) and I used Trader Joe's liquid stevia. Didn't measure, just added for taste. For one of the servings I added a small spoonful of TJ's peanut butter. So good!!! My question: Are the berries included in the carb count? It looks like they are but I wasn't sure. Thanks! Will be making this again!Reply
Stacey
Laine, yes, I included the berries in the carb count (which is where most of the carbs are from in the recipe.

So delicious!!! And truly creamy! I was blown away. I used Walnuts ground instead of sunflower as I didn’t have any and it worked! Thank you for sharing!Reply
Stacey
Thank you, DeAnna, Using walnuts is a great idea and they are a little easier to find!

My husband has been missing his morning oatmeal and he said that this is a good substitute. I didn't have raw sunflower seeds so I substituted pumpkin seeds and it turned out wonderful. I will be making this recipe often in the winter.Reply
Missy
This came out very thin for me I’m still boiling it after about 10 minutes to hopefully thicken it! Help!!
Reply
Stacey
Missy, you can add a little more flax meal to thicken. I changed the almond milk amount a little so people can thick or thicken as desired.

I make this recipe all the time! Cream of wheat is my favorite and I love having the alternative. Instead of the sunflower seeds I just use almond flour 5tbsp, coconut flour 4tbsp and flaxseed meal 2tbsp and the consistency is still wonderful. Quickest breakfast! Thanks so much!Reply
Stacey
Thank you so much, Sarah, for making the recipe all the time and for your kind words 🙂

Do you think I could use ground flaxseed Instead of flaxseed meal? I can’t seem to find the meal locally. Could I buy the seeds and use my food processor and grind them up to a consistency not as fine as my ground flaxseed? That should work right?Reply
Stacey
I think it would work.

I made this into an instant hot cereal for work by adding some heavy cream powder and a bit of sugar free vanilla creamer. When I am at work, I can just add hot water and let it sit for a minute until it thickens. I made a large batch, so I can keep it in an airtight container ready to go.Reply
Stacey
Thank you, Jane, for trying this and sharing your method of making it an instant hot cereal. Brilliant idea! 🙂

Very pleased with this recipe! I have missed hot breakfast cereals and this is a great alternative to my beloved oatmeal and grits recipes! Used molasses for sweetener - just a touch - and 1/2 whole milk/1/2 heavy cream, as I prefer it over almond milk and like the added fat. Needed a touch of salt but fabulous with keto bread toast and a piping hot cup of coffee - so warming after feeding the animals in the cold! I'll be making this one regularly 🙂Reply
Stacey
Thank you so much, NJ Knopp, for trying the recipe and for your very kind words, suggestions & tips 🙂

This is absolutely delicious!! I didn't have sunflower seeds so just ground up unsweetened coconut flakes and added 4 Tb. of that. It wasn't as thick as the picture but the flavor and texture was amazing. Thank you!
Reply
Stacey
Thank you, Holly, you can add more almond flour to thicken if you're not using the ground sunflower seeds.

Gia
Could I use psyllium husk powder instead of road seed?Reply
Stacey
Gia, you just use more almond flour to replace the sunflower seed meal. You can add a little psyllium husk powder if you like, just not too much.

Can you make a batch and keep it in the fridge?

Yes, Anna, I did that. I made a batch and stored in the fridge in a covered container. Just added a little water before reheating to thin it a little, as the fridge makes it get thicker.
